Kyparissi is a secluded sanctuary located on the northeast coast of the Peloponnese mainland between Monemvasia and Nafplio. This tiny fishing village is shielded from the onslaught of mass tourism and retains an air of tranquility and unspoiled charm. It is a place to let time pass by and leave the world behind.
Kyparissi is actually three villages built into the slopes of Mount Parnon. It is surrounded by phenomenal limestone. At the bottom of the mountain range sits Metropolis. This is the secret weekend retreat of the Athenian jet set. Close by, Parilea offers two of the three pristine pebble beaches in the area. Here you can enjoy the sea without a myriad of other yachts. There are tavernas along the coastline serving fresh fish plus other local delicacies and wines from the area. The highest part of Kyparissi is Vrissi, everyone has beautiful gardens, orchards and olive trees. It draws visitors up the steep, cobbled street to take in the views and visit its natural spring. Vrissi has some lovely hiking routes too.
Kyparissi is one of the best kept secrets among charters. Our Captain anchored in what seemed to be our own secret cove near Parilea. This spectacular location is not easily accessible-you can only get there by boat. The cobalt blue waters of the Myrtoan sea became our private playground for the day. The vast open space was a perfect location for a day of fun and adventure. The kids and the rest of us kids-at-heart enjoyed all the fabulous water toys our charter provided. Our day was spent sliding down the ships blow-up water slide, exploring the area on kayaks and stand-up paddle boards, snorkeling, racing waverunners and the ultimate luxury water toy, the Seabobs. OMG! This water toy is a game changer! The Seabob is a high-end electric underwater scooter designed to explore the surface of the sea and/or beneath it. The best way I can explain it is like riding on a dolphin. We spent the day under the warm life-giving sun and the cool sea waters. Later on we watched a spectacular sunset while sipping refreshing cocktails our wonderful Serafin prepared just for us.
How can this day possibly get any better? Well, onboard Pathos it always gets better! Our fabulous crew prepared a delicious BBQ style dinner that evening under a sky filled with twinkling stars and a soothing summer breeze. My stomach and my soul were happy. I finished the day with a grateful heart. Incredibly grateful for where I was and excited for where we were going!
